Again I find the same attitude already displayed in the Western Morning News articles: the move seems already to be taken for granted. By the way: Torbay, like Falmouth, isn’t Dartington…

And I simply do not believe the Trust representative who claims that “all avenues for keeping the college in South Devon had been exhausted”. Did the Trust ever launch a large fundraising campaign? Or support the college in doing so?

What worries me, though, is the fact that all these articles could subtly influence people and make them think that what could still be changed is already inevitable.

The press has a lot of power, but larger still is that of a discerning, critical and imaginative mind. And I hope that all campaigners for Dartington College will use exactly this capacity of theirs! šŸ™‚

This really shocks me. I have studied at dartington fron ’96-’99. I came over from Germany and really found a home in spirit there, and this was certainly to do with the spirit of the place that was found by the Elmhirst couple between the wars. This heritage is a culture that is rarely vivid to the present in form of an educational site in Europe. Moving it further away from London, too,I guess would be desasterous for the student’s link to the rest of the country & thereby international contacts. I think, there is an aspect to this that can’t be replaced, it’s to with roots in the tradition of being dedicated to the future. I would be very sad about this development. Regards, Hanna Solms
