REPORT ON COLLEGE FUTURE TO BE PUBLIC
9 February 2007
First of all: I am so glad I went! And I have the impression that it has been a big success.

I was amazed about the new studio building. There is a lot of public money in it, and it should remain what it is: a public institution.

I have fond memories of many concerts in the Great Hall, both as a performer and in the audience. This time it was full of tables and chairs for a posh reception. Does the college still have any use of it for certain events?

Frank Denyer leading the students down the hill. When they came into view, accompanied by the sound of drums, it was almost as in “Lord of the Rings”. Gave me goosepimples…

That’s Sven and me. Two thirds of the “Singvøgel”.

The little car we had hired was also adorned with “Save Dartington College” placards.

… joined the march. More than 1000 in the end.

Frank Denyer gave a brilliant speech.

The Mayor of Totnes promised her full support to the College.

And I said a little something, too.

All of this was framed by a lot of wonderful music; at the very beginning the Torbay Symphony Orchestra performed Shostakovich, whose music I absolutely love; what a pleasant surprise!
Although a battle has been won, the fight must go on, and I believe it will still take some time. But I have the impression that the whole community of Totnes is behind the campaign, and more and more people join in to support it.
Now it is a matter of active perseverance.
